Cleaning the interior of your car – what you need to keep in mind!

Our four-wheeled home – often used as such, cleaning it quickly gets forgotten. We're talking about the car, or more specifically, the car interior. Although proper care of your dashboard, upholstery, and footwells is just as important as regular visits to the car wash, it's often neglected. We'll share practical tips and tools with you that make cleaning your car interior as easy as possible to integrate into your daily routine.

Practical tips for proper car care

How often should the interior of the car be cleaned, and how can you ideally do it yourself without too much effort? The appropriate frequency, of course, depends heavily on the actual use of the car and is therefore difficult to generalize.

Whether as a daily companion on the way to work or as a weekly tool for the big weekly shop, the general principle is to keep up the regularity. Cleaning once a month is usually sufficient, so you don't have to worry about uninvited passengers. 😉

The intensity of cleaning naturally depends on the degree of dirt in the car's interior. You'll learn more about this in the next section.

Cleaning the vehicle interior

We start by decluttering our car. Everything that's not absolutely necessary goes out—be it returnable bottles or the wrapper from the last chocolate bar. This way, we get rid of the worst clutter right from the start.

In the second cleaning step, we use the vacuum cleaner to thoroughly vacuum all seat upholstery and footwell areas. Floor mats are removed, shaken off, and then vacuumed as well. We also focus on storage areas, the side compartments of the doors and door panels, the trunk, and not forgetting the car headliner – this is where dust and dirt also accumulate.

For a thorough cleaning of the fittings, a bucket of lukewarm water and a little dish soap is sufficient. Next, it's the turn of the windows. In most cases, water with dish soap should be sufficient; for heavier soiling, special cleaning agents are helpful. This is especially quick and effective with our WISCHA cleaning glove. This surface-friendly, universal microfiber glove allows for quick and effortless cleaning in just one step.

Cleaning car seats

After thoroughly vacuuming the seats in the previous step, it's time to get down to the finer details. If left unattended for a while, the seat crevices quickly become a trap for crumbs and other debris, which are difficult to remove.

Profile brush WILMA

But we have a practical solution for this too: With our miracle weapon, the WILMA profile brush , the tedious cleaning of cracks and crevices becomes child's play. Simply run the brush through the cracks in the seats a few times and then vacuum up the accumulated dirt. The brush's stiff bristles ensure that not a single crumb escapes your car cleaning!

Additionally, it's recommended to thoroughly clean the seat upholstery about once a year. These absorb odors and fumes, which can cause your car to become increasingly musty. Various automotive textile cleaners are available for this purpose.

How to properly clean your car's cockpit: Here's how!

Dust brush PUNTO

The trim shines again, the car seats are free of crumbs – now only the cockpit is missing. Just as easily as the rest of the car, the dashboard can be cleaned with a little water and dish soap or a mild cleaning agent. Things get a little trickier with the small openings of the air vents and speakers – dirt and dust residue is difficult to reach with a rag. Our PUNTO cockpit brush offers a practical alternative: The brush's long, soft bristles remove dust and other debris in no time, leaving even inaccessible crevices sparkling clean! The best part: Our car cleaning brush can be easily stored in the center console, making it ideal for removing crumbs and dust the next time you stop at a traffic light.
